USEA Rule Update May 2007 - Jumping Phase Rule Change

EV147 Jumping Scoring

1. FAULTS AT OBSTACLES.
o Knocking down an obstacle 4 penalties
o First disobedience 4 penalties
o Second disobedience in the whole Test 8 penalties
o Third disobedience in the whole Test Elimination
o First fall of competitor 8 penalties
o First fall of horse Mandatory retirement
o Second fall of competitor Elimination


2. TIME FAULTS. The length of the course and the speed demanded determine the time
allowed. Completing the course in less than the time allowed is not rewarded, but exceeding
the time allowed is penalized by one penalty point per second or part of a second in
excess of the time allowed, up to the time limit, which is twice the time allowed. Exceeding
the time limit involves elimination.

(At Beginner Novice, Novice and Training, the provisions of EV149.1.c apply as follows: The clock will be restarted when the horse leaves the ground at the obstacle where the disobedience occurred or when the horse incurs a second refusal.)
Effective 12/01/06: EV149.1 (c) - (omitted from the 2007 Rules for Eventing)

(c) The clock is restarted at the moment when the horse leaves the ground at the obstacle where the refusal occurred. If a disobedience with a knock-down occurs at the second or subsequent part of a combination the clock is restarted when the horse leaves the ground at the first element of the combination.
